The Senior System Administrator provides enterprise level Desktop, Network, and Server support. Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems. Recommends the redesign and configuration of operating systems and system applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department. Reports to the IT Manager.
• Configures, manages and documents enterprise grade network infrastructure
• Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
• Leads resolution efforts for any network performance or reliability problems
• Prioritize and responds to End User requests, providing timely and high-quality support for both local and remote users. Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assigned work and follow through to completion
• Extensive experience in maintaining and administering Active Directory, Windows Server, and MSSQL environments as well as hands on knowledge of virtualization and cloud solutions including Hyper-V, VMware, Citrix, Microsoft Azure and Office 365
• Be the subject matter expert in critical datacenter technologies: Servers, Security, LAN/WAN hardware and other network appliances, relying on internal and external resources as needed
• Maintain the health of systems by identifying and applying patches and firmware upgrades related to storage, servers, applications, network, virtual environment, and backups systems
• Document and implement configuration standards for utilization & manageability of data-center systems
• Manages the day-to-day operations of the host computers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair. Ensures that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Applies revisions to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities as well as research improved technologies
• Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Trains technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired
• Performs troubleshooting as required. As such, leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations
• Establishes, maintains and manages users accounts. Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on server computer systems. Provides server support related to other software
• Follows guidelines and methods for the installation and management of the host computer operating systems, storage arrays, switches, wireless access points, IP phones, tape libraries and other components. Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources
• Develops procedures, programs and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications
• Develops and coordinates project directions and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on the customer organizations. Involved with planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration
• Develops tools, procedures, and training sessions for Operations, Client Support and Systems Development staff to assist with work
• Manages the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system)
• Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways for Company to take advantage of new technology. Writes, maintains IT policies and procedures
• Knowledge of system virtualization, and operating systems; current equipment and technologies in use; Windows system administration, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, and system performance monitoring tools; effective project management
techniques; principles and practices of effective management and supervision
• Knowledgeable of security/privacy regulations and standards such as ISO 27001, HIPAA, NIST Cybersecurity Framework and CIS Top 20 Security Controls. Confers with users to ascertain requirements
• Assists in developing, revising and maintaining policy procedures to maintain security and assure the security and functionality of all IT systems
• Experience in managing security solutions: Windows/Microsoft Update, manages antivirus software, active directory group policy, 3rd party update management, APT detection appliances/software, firewalls, VPN technologies, web proxy appliances, SIEM solutions, building access control systems. CCTV security camera systems and multifactor authentication solutions
• Performs ongoing and periodic security and compliance reviews, using tools such as Nessus, MBSA, SIEM, SCCM/WSUS and other related software and producing report using MS Office suites
• Ability to: Plan, organize and document complex system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent with institutional policies/procedures; communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility; perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively. Ability to work calmly in high-pressure situations and manage multiple ongoing daily tasks
• APICS Certification in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and experience incorporating these tools and techniques to improve the company’s efficiency of internal processes
• Experience administering and developing in a POST-Relational Database environment (INFORMATION flavor is preferred)
• Prior experience and involvement using Business Process Improvement (BPI) methods and techniques, incorporating Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) phases and methodologies to map, develop and execute programmatic strategies to streamline and
improve process and data flow
• May require travel to other facilities during the workday as well as off scheduled workdays
